MALLARMIX

"Mallarmix" is a group of 20 video animations that mixes Artificial Intelligence and poems of Stéphane Mallarmé.

Instead of glorifying the latest technological achievements, my goal was to test the semantic and symbolic limitations of a computer system, with the following questions: can Artificial Intelligence generate poetry? Is a computer capable of signifying reality on a symbolic level, with its own, poetical language?  What are the political implications of such issues?

All the 'poems' on the installation were computer generated, following specific steps:

- the AI makes a description of a painting of Günter Nosch,via AI Image Caption Generation;

- the AI is "trained" to write in the style of Mallarmé;

- the description of the painting is the initial input for the system to generate the poems;

- all the pieces of music are composed of AI systems;

- voices and sound effects are also computer-generated (text-to-speech and granular synthesis).

The animations explore visual possibilities of poetry, attempting to add a new layer of meaning to the texts.
