I am fascinated by the explanation of “Monade” by the philosopher Leibniz. He says a monade is an indivisible and immaterial element, that governs all living things.
A monade is the mirror of the universe.
Playing with the word MONADE, I imagined MONO-NADA.
But the sculpture is the word NADA, collapsed into steel.
What was my surprise to see the polysemic dimension of this word.
“Nada”, in other languages, means:
River, pulse, vein, tone, sound, dew, hope, among others.
And the title integrates them, as a central part of the work:
“River, pulse, vein, tone, sound, dew, hope: nada”
exhibition
“depois do silêncio,” (after the silence,)
